What's in Baby's Hospital Bag?

I cannot believe the time has come to pack the hospital bags, it's a little terrifying if I'm quite honest as it means we're getting closer and closer to the next chapter. I watched numerous youtube videos and read various blog posts before finally being able to make our trusty hospital bag list. I also found so much advice on the We Made A Baby blog which quickly became my life saver so here is exactly what we've packed inside Baby Spake's bag ready for him to enter the world.

While researching what to put inside the hospital bags, the one thing I kept coming across was how it was all about the mother to be and not so much baby. Obviously mother to be is super important but I wanted to know the number of nappies we would need or how many vests is too many. I had so many questions, most of which were probably irrelevant but I'm a first time mum so I'm allowed. We decided to use our Babymel Robyn Changing Bag for baby and once I was eventually happy with our list, we filled it up between a couple of overwhelmed tears.

So here is exactly what we've packed:

  • One pack of wet wipes
  • Small pack of cotton wool
  • Baby brush and comb (I'm predicting lots of hair)
  • Nappies x10
  • Muslin square
  • Vests (Newborn/0-1M) x4
  • Sleepsuits (Newborn/0-1M) x3
  • Scratch mittens
  • Hats x2
  • Blanket
  • Going home outfit
  • Cuddly Duck
  • Socks & cardigan, just in case

Let me know if there is anything you may have packed, that we might really need. I've gone over our list so many times, I wouldn't be surprised if I've forgotten something really important.

  1. Oh wow you're doing so well and being really organised. I would say maybe an extra sleepsuit or two just in case baby is sick or a messy poo nappy although I'm sure someone can bring extra in for you :)

  3. Have you thought about a shawl to wrap him in? We were always told to wrap them up fairly tight as it's what they are used to being as there's little room in the womb, to begin with it can help them sleep better xx

  6. Sounds like you've got it all organised! I would take a couple of muslins as they mess them up pretty quickly, you can also use them as light blankets if it's warm in the hospital (ours was BOILING and was Feb!). We had to use lots more clothes than on this list, but we were in for a week so V just kept having to go home and return with new items, was a nightmare!

    1. We nearly pack any as I kept being told I won't need them as you only need them if they bottle feed, I ignored and packed anyway! We're close enough that if needed we can get more clothes thankfully xx

  7. So exciting!! Looks like you've got everything sorted and what you need! The only thing I would say is to either take a couple more vests nappies, muslins etc just in case you end up staying in any longer than expected. Or maybe just have a couple in a little pile at home so that if necessary someone can pop home and grab them for you! (We ended up staying in longer than we thought and Jack was tooing and froing bless him! ) xx

  8. I can't believe it's hospital bag time already! But you look as though your really on top of things - the only thing I would suggest is to take more vests/sleepsuits - just in case your in for longer. I took loads as I thought I would be but was in and out in 8 hours so didn't even end up using anything, but better over prepared! xx

  10. One thing my midwife told me not to bring is white muslins - to bring coloured or patterned ones! Because when someone comes round to clean your area and just scoops up all the bed linen, that your muslin might not be spotted and will disappear into the hospitals laundry service forever... lol!
    Much love, Caitylis x x
