Step into Scandinavia at Kupp

Kupp Southampton opened in July much to everyone's delight bringing a taste of Scandinavia to Southampton and we couldn't wait to see what all the hype was about. We are truly spoilt in Southampton when it comes to food, there is such a wide range available now in the new West Quay development that your only problem is choosing where to go! I'll help you out by putting Kupp at the top of your list...

After experiencing the launch event and some samples of the food available, we just had to book in and experience the full menu at Kupp. Arran and I made it the location of one of our date nights recently and we were not disappointed. Greeted by the incredibly friendly and helpful staff, we sat right by the open kitchen and chose our drinks. Arran went straight in with a pint of Leffe while I tried the one of their mocktails, a delicious cranberry and lingonberry concoction before ordering a non alcoholic beer as Arran's smelt so good! Totally blaming the baby for that one.

After being talked through the menu by our lovely server for the evening, we eventually settled on what we were going to order. Starting with the Graze & Share menu, we ordered the Oven Baked Quinoa, Kale & Butternut Cakes served with goat's curd and lingonberry dressing as well as the Homemade Potted Rabbit. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and tasted delicious but the rabbit definitely stole the show. It was cooked in nutmeg butter and served alongside sour dough, it just had such an exceptional taste. I've eaten rabbit in the past and have always been a fan and this is definitely up there as one of my favourite dishes.

After warming up our bellies, our mains were brought over. Arran ordered the 28 Day Dry Aged 12oz Rib Eye served with Scandi potato pancake and salad while I chose the Salted Puff Pastry Salmon Coulibiac served with potato salad, pickled vegetables and coffee, mustard & dill sauce. The Coulibiac is cooked fresh, daily and once it's gone, it's gone and lucky old me bagged the last bit! I'm a big salmon fan and this was cooked to perfection and the warming of the fish alongside the cool potato salad was delicious.

I would definitely order this again on my next visit! Arran said his steak was cooked exactly as requested and the smoked salt butter it was served with gave it a moist, melt in the mouth sensation. the Scandi potato pancake was yummy too! Kupp do not scrimp on portion size at all and both of us struggled to finish our mains, we were left sufficiently full, you certainly get your monies worth.

After letting our delicious mains settle, I took one for the team and ordered dessert, choosing the Toasted Banana Bread with cinnamon ice cream and blossom honey. The bread was perfectly moist and the cinnamon ice cream and honey drizzle paired with it perfectly! The Swedish Pancake Stack is on my to try list next. The chef also came our during dessert to check how our meals were, which I thought was a great touch, something I always appreciate when visiting restaurants as it makes it a much more personal experience for me.

We had such a lovely evening, the interior is beautiful and there was such a buzz in the atmosphere with groups and families of all ages around us. I'm so glad we were able to head back in and try Kupp and I can't wait to try more off the menu. Have you ever tried Kupp before? What did you think?

  2. I've seen your photos of Kupp on Instagram and I really want to go. Toasted banana bread sounds delicious! Do you think they're baby friendly during the day? Don't know when I'll ever get a child-free evening.

    1. Hi Debbie
We are very definitely baby friendly - lots of space for a buggy and a children's menu for the slightly bigger little ones :)
