October Birchbox // STYLIST

After Birchbox's fabulous birthday month in September I was really looking forward to the October boxes and they did not disappoint. This month subscribers were able to choose which box they would receive, the guest editor or the basic. I'll be showing you the basic box tomorrow as today is all about the guest editor, Joanna McGarry from Stylist.

When opening the Stylist* box I did an incy weeny squeal when I spotted Bioderma. I have NEVER tried this but it is a make up artists staple and one I was eager to use. I swear by micellar water and I'm never without my trusty bottle from Garnier. I don't think this size was enough to make me go wow but it is still something I'd pick up in the future to give it a better try.

Rituals Yogi Flow smells like Summer nights, with Indian Rose and Sweet Almond Oil. You need the smallest amount of this to get a good amount of foam to wash your whole body. It leaves my skin really soft and the scent lingers for a good few hours after using, pair this with the When Travelmate Sheet Mask and you have the ultimate pamper night. I've been using sheet masks for the last month and love how they make my skin feel. This particular one helps restore skin after sun, wind and dry air damage. It's so great for locking in that much needed moisture your skin needs as the season changes and gets colder.

I'm not usually a fan of perfume samples in subscription boxes, I feel like they're a bit of a cop out product. English Laundry No.7 For Her is a sweet and fruity scent, not my cup of tea but after wearing it the last couple of days it's really grown on me. I feel like this would be much better suited for a Spring Birchbox with the Rose Geranium being the most overpowering ingredient. The next 'sweet' product is the 100% Pure in Peach Bellini, a pretty, pink lip glaze. I love the packaging to this, it comes in a cardboard tube (not practical but cute) and the lip glaze itself is a round, silver bullet with white flowers emblazoned on it. You get 2.4g of product which applies beautifully to the lip leaving them hydrated with a pop of pink shimmer. My one complaint, it tastes and smells like a dirt cheap lipstick. For £19, I'd expect it to smell like a peach bellini at the very least.

Lastly is a product from a brand I'm quite familiar with, Parlour by Jeff Chastain. I really love the Moisturising Sea Salt spray so I was really looking forward to trying the Smoothing Blowout Spray. It smells incredible, just like crisp apples. All you do is spray onto damp hair before blow drying to give hair instant volume and shine. It's lightweight and really does the job. I've only used this once so far but my hair looked bouncy and healthy so only time will tell if it's worth the money.

What do you think of the Stylist box? Did you opt for this one?

  1. I chose the other box because it came with a full size Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat. But this one looks just as good. I got a Bioderma sample too but agree they are a bit too tiny to give the wow factor haha x
