Homeware Haul

I've been switching it up a little on Annie Writes Beauty with the odd fashion and lifestyle post and as they've gone down rather well, I thought I would do another homeware haul. I love shopping for homeware and browsing Pinterest for some inspiration since Arran and I moved into our new flat.

Primark is definitely my go to for new bits, it's cheap and cheerful plus it means I don't feel bad for buying multiple cushions I don't need. The square Savon des Familles cushion was £4 and went perfectly with the Hug one I bought in my last Homeware Haul to go in the bedroom. The grey heart cushion, which is oh so soft was a bargain £3! It also comes in pink and white. I also bought another bed sheet because for just £7 for a king size sheet, the quality is amazing and they come in lots of different colours. Lastly were the fairy lights, these are diamond shaped and battery operated for £3, I got these to put inside a milk bottle vase I found in Ikea a few months ago.

My owl ornament is my favourite purchase, it's a little pot so you could store jewellery or little make up bits but mine sits next to our tv in the living room. It was £3.50 in the Debenhams Blue Cross sale and I really wish I had picked up another. The cream plate with the little bird on was another sale purchase, I think this was also £3.50 from BHS. I'd been looking for one for so long and it being in the sale was a bonus. I use it to store my Pandora rings and earrings on my bedside table.

Have you been homeware hauling recently?

August Birchbox

Birchbox are very quickly becoming the highlight of my month so when the August Birchbox* landed on my door mat I couldn't wait to get the box open and see what was inside. The theme was Away We Go, celebrating Summer getaways with travelling essentials.

N.4 Lumiere d'hiver Super Comb Prep & Protect
I don't usually use leave in conditioner, I just assume it's going to clog my hair up with product but this little 30ml sample really changed my mind. Not only does it leave my hair feeling light and conditioned, but it detangles and protects against heat leaving my hair smelling like Summer.

Liaison de Parfum I Dare You 2ml
I Dare You is like nothing I've ever smelt before, it's heavy and musky with notes of vetiver, sandalwood, leather and amber. For £105 per 100ml bottle it's on the pricey side but the scent lasts for hours and it smells much more sophisticated than most perfumes on the market.

Nude ProGenius Treatment Oil
This little wonder oil had some pretty impressive claims but it smells awful. I had to take it off as quickly as I put it on. As much as I'd like ageless skin, I'd like it without smelling like Naan Bread.

Wild About Beauty Creme Eyeshadow 01 Olivia
I've never tried Wild About Beauty before but had heard really good things about the brand so I couldn't wait to try the creme eyeshadow, something I rarely use. I received the shade Olivia which is a shimmery, cool champagne colour and really makes the colour of my eyes pop. I've used it a few times and it does crease without a primer but I'm really liking it.

Supergoop Daily Correct CC Cream
I can't keep up with all the different alphabet creams on the market, this came up quite orange on me but it blended really well and offered a really fab coverage.

Birchbox also included a taster of The Proposal by Tasmina Perry and all this months products came in a handy, clear bag with a cute beach theme. I can't wait to see what next months box includes!

Lush Southampton Summer Event

Another month, another Lush event.. I just can't keep away! Lush Southampton is my local store, and like clockwork I go in almost every Thursday after work with my younger sister to stock up. The staff are fab and really know their stuff so it's always an enjoyable visit, so when the lovely Rosie emailed me a few months ago about organising an event in Southampton I was on board from the word go.

A few weeks ago my lovely boyfriend whisked me off to Brighton for a day to ourselves to have a wander around and explore. I'd never been there before and had wanted too for such a long time, I was like an excitable child in the morning. It took just under two hours to get to Brighton from Southampton and after filling up on Pain au Chocolats and Cappucinos on the train we were ready for the day ahead.

We headed straight to Brighton's famous lanes, spending a few hours walking around, exploring the cute shops, mesmirising at the chocolate creations in Choccywoccydoodah and eating yummy cupcakes in Angel Cupcakes. We went to JB's American Diner for lunch where the food was fabulous, the staff were friendly, the interior was exactly how I'd expect a 50's diner to look and rock 'n' roll was playing in the background. It was so busy in there I couldn't take half as many photos as I would of liked too.

The sun was shining all day, perfect weather for sitting on the beach with an ice cream and looking out to sea. After buying the compulsory fridge magnet and stick of rock we wandered back into the lanes for cocktails under the brightly coloured bunting and clear blue skies. I adored Brighton and didn't want to leave. We're already planning to go down again next month as there's still so much to see.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to do in Brighton or where to go.. please let me know!

Make Up Revolution Iconic 1 V Urban Decay Naked

Myself and many others are crushing on Make Up Revolution big time at the moment and for good reason too, fabulous quality make up at affordable prices for every pocket?! What's not to love? I did a post last month, First look - Make Up Revolution* which included the gorgeous Iconic 1, which as you can tell in the photos, is a dead ringer for another palette that is well loved by many, the original Naked palette by Urban Decay.

The big difference between these two is definitely the price, Naked coming in at £37 and Iconic 1 at just £4. Iconic 1 is quite a bit smaller and perfect for travelling and the eye shades are so similar. The colour and pigmentation is outstanding and they're also really creamy which makes a nice change for lower priced eye shadows. As much as I love my Naked palette, one I reach for daily, I'm glad I now have its cheaper twin to use along side it.

The Iconic 1's version of Virgin, Creep and Gunmetal aren't a patch on the UD palette but you can't really tell the difference between the rest of the shades. I've been wearing both palettes on and off for quite a few weeks now and the staying power on both is really impressive, I've loved using the Make Up Revolution version and will definitely be treating myself to Iconic 2 & 3 too, £8 for both is a complete bargain!

I'd love to know what swatch you think is Urban Decay Naked and which one is Make Up Revolution Iconic 1. Left or Right? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me.

*PR Sample sent for review.

Blueberry // Barry M Cosmetics

Barry M and the colour blue seems to be my go to nail look at the moment.. I have so many nail polish bottles lurking around in my collection that I really should show the rest of them a little more love. Especially as this is a new one I bought on a whim last week. Blueberry is from Barry M's Hi Shine Gelly range and it is definitely my new favourite nail colour. It's such a vibrant blue and I could not stop looking at my nails the whole time I had this on. I was also asked three or four times by customers what I was wearing on my nails.

It glides on the nail and takes two coats to get the opaque colour I have on above. I think two coats is pretty standard for nail polish, plus this dries so quickly. No Elegent Touch Rapid Dry needed here! This did chip after 2-3 days but my job contributes to how long my nail varnish lasts unfortunately and I like changing the colour so often I don't mind too much.
I'm trying to stop myself buying the whole Hi Gelly Shine range at the moment but it's proving pretty difficult.. Boots is calling my name.

What have you been wearing on your nails this week?

Daisy Dream // Marc Jacobs

Ah Daisy Dream. Probably the most beautiful perfume bottle I have ever come across. I had been waiting in anticipation for this to be released and as soon as it hit the shelves it was mine. This is the latest addition to Marc Jacobs ever gorgeous, ever growing perfume collection. Daisy Dream comes in a beautiful bottle adorned with white daisies and the blue coloured perfume compliments it so well. With notes of Blackberry, Grapefruit, Pear, Jasmine, Blue Wisteria, Lychee, Coconut Water, White Woods and Musk; It's a fresh floral scent and captivates the youthful and romantic inspired scent perfectly.

I have been a Marc Jacobs fan for a number of years and have his beautiful bottles lined up in my bedroom, Lola has been a favourite of mine since it was first released in 2009 but I think this little blue beauty has very much stolen Lola's crown. I have been wearing this non stop since I bought it and I also have the purse spray to top up during the day or in the evenings. If you haven't had a sniff of this yet, get yourself to your nearest department store. I guarantee you will fall in love with this dreamy perfume.

My Favourite MAC Lipstick

I love a MAC lipstick, and whenever pay day swings back around I somehow end up browsing the counters until a little voice in my head tells me that I must leave one. I jumped on the bandwagon very late and only purchased my first MAC lipstick a little over a year ago. In the last year I have built up quite the collection but out of them all So Chaud is my favourite and I find myself reaching for it the majority of the time.

So Chaud is a reddish orange and comes in a matte finish. It leaves such an intense colour on the lip and lasts for hours. This doesn't pull when applied like most matte lipsticks, Ruby Woo I'm looking at you, and it feels almost creamy, a lot like a satin finish. It's perfect for dressing up a plain black outfit, day or night. It's definitely my most used and one I would repurchase again and again. Whenever anyone asks for lipstick recommendations this is the first one I say to anyone. I really do love it that much.

What is your favourite MAC lipstick?

Topshop & River Island Haul

Although I usually blog about make up and beauty products, just like anyone else I do love a good clothing haul and July for me seemed to be the month of hauls. Today I have for you some bits I picked up towards the end of the month in River Island and Topshop. I'm a toppers girl through and through, and have been for many years, plus River Island had a sale on so it all went downhill from there.

Decleor DD Cream

I have posted about my love of Decleor before in my Decleor Skincare - Brand Focus and Decleor Facial posts so when this little tube of goodness arrived I couldn't wait to try it out. The Decleor Daily Defence Fluid Shield* has become my go to face product in recent weeks due to it being a tad too warm to wear foundation. There are so many different alphabet creams on the market. Alphabet creams is the easiest way I could think of calling them because let's face it, we'll be on to ZZ creams next. I found a really interesting article on if you do want to know the difference between what is available in today's current beauty market.

This particular DD Cream is a really runny consistency and you just apply it evenly over your daily moisturiser. It contains SPF30 and leaves an illuminating finish which I've personally been toning down with a dusting of translucent powder.  As a pale girl when I first squeezed this onto my hand I was taken aback by how dark it looked but it didn't transfer like this when applied thankfully. No tide marks here! It sinks into skin quickly, doesn't feel sticky and smells fresh if not a little floral which I didn't mind too much. I personally love the smell of Decleor products but if you don't like too much of a scent to your face products then this is definitely a smell before you buy product.

I would love to know what you thought if you've also tried this product. Let me know in the comments below.

Blue Moon // Barry M Cosmetics

This week started off pretty rubbish for me so that reflected on my nail colour. Barry M's Blue Moon has been a favourite of mine for a while. When I first uploaded a picture to Instagram on Sunday a few people asked if this was a new shade as they had never seen it before but I treated myself to this last year and I checked in Boots yesterday and it's still on sale if you fancy picking one up for yourself.

Blue Moon is a pastel blue with a very slight shimmer to it. I love pastel nail varnish all year round, it's so easy to wear and perks up a plain outfit. Barry M have a permanent place in my heart as their colour range is so wide and the formula is pretty awesome for just £2.99. I've had this on my nails now for four days and I'm yet to get any chips, and that's without a top coat. Pretty impressive eh?

Are you a Barry M fan too? What's your favourite shade?

Candy Yum Yum V Kelly Yum Yum

(Top - Candy Yum Yum & Bottom - Kelly Yum Yum)

As you will know if you're a regular reader I'm partial to a MAC lippy or five. I keep meaning to do a collection post but for the mean time I have a lotta yum yum for you today! I recently picked up Kelly Yum Yum from the latest Osbourne collection because I had to have something from it and that was all that was left. As you can probably tell I have one that is quite similar already, Candy Yum Yum.

Candy Yum Yum is from MAC's permanent line and comes in a matte finish. It's a shocking pink and not for the faint hearted. This is as bold as they come! The matte range can be quite drying but this is slightly creamier than most. Kelly Yum Yum is a satin finish so even creamier and they both last for hours! No touch ups here! They are both SO similar but they do have slight differences, and I mean slight. Kelly Yum Yum is much warmer and a touch darker than Candy Yum Yum and I find it a little more wearable but that's it. Do I need both of these, probably not but I needed the lilac packaging. Terrible excuse right?

Argan Dew Hair Treatments

Argan Dew has featured a lot on various blogs over the months and when Amy and I were organising the Southampton blog meet they kindly sent through samples for each of the girl's goody bags. I finally got round to using my samples last week when I fancied a pamper day. Argan Dew specialise in that oil we all know and love; and since I've had my hair bleached again it needed some TLC, this certainly did the job.

I used both treatments in one go while having a relaxing bubble bath. You put the Replenishing Hair Mask on for five or so minutes and then just rinse out. It smelt so lovely, I can't stand anything that smells gross on my hair as it tends to linger. After washing through my hair just incase it irritated my scalp (it didn't, woo!) I towel dried my long tresses and applied the Daily Hair Treatment to the ends and let my hair dry. Again, it left my hair smelling lovely, it looked really shiny and healthy plus the ends didn't look as frazzled. Top marks for Argan Dew from me! You can order their products online via their website which I have linked at the top.

If you have tried Argan Dew I'd love to know your thoughts in the comments below.

July in Instagram

I hold my hands up. I'm addicted to Instagram and the Valencia filter. This is my July highlights and if you don't already follow me you can find me on my favourite app on the username alicespake.

1. I had a special little delivery from Vitacoco UK which Arran was very happy about as he drinks gallons of the stuff. I can't wait to try the lemonade one.

2. Arran and I take a lot of selfies. We also match my lipstick to his t-shirts without realising. MAC's Pink Nouveau is one of my faves for Summer.

3. I went for nude nails for the end of the month with Ciate's My Fair Lady.

4. My sister and I also take a lot of selfies while pulling stupid faces. MAC Lippy for us both in this one. I'm wearing Pink Poodle and Emily is wearing Crosswires.

5. My lovely Grandmother celebrated her 70th birthday with this beautiful cake made by the amazingly talented Rachel Manning Cakes.

6. My little Cousin also celebrated his 8th birthday with a barbeque with all the family and these yummy cupcakes.

7. We Went to Sprinkles in Southampton and ate a while lotta waffle! Best gelato ever!

8. Tigger had a little operation and he looked too cute with his bandage on not to take a photo.

9. The latest addition to the ever growing Marc Jacobs collection, Daisy Dream. The most beautiful bottle I've ever seen. And it doesn't smell too bad either!
