Decleor Facial // John Lewis Southampton

As some of you may know I've been having a play around with some of the fabulous products from skincare specialists Decleor. I did a Decleor Skincare - Brand Focus post on what I was going to be trying a little while ago and I was very impressed. I will be doing an update on what I've used so far in May as I wanted to get a good feel of the products before I did. Today's post is all about my lovely facial I had done by Aimee at the Decleor counter in John Lewis, Southampton.

As you will probably know because I've been spamming my twitter with updates and photos, I attended my best friends wedding two days ago so a facial was very much needed after two late nights and a bit too much alcohol. The treatment room was lovely and tranquil with low lighting and a very comfy massage table I could of happily had a little nap on.

The products that Aimee used were Aroma Cleanse Essential Cleansing Milk, Aroma Cleanse Essential Tonifying Lotion, Aroma Cleanse Phytopeel, Aromessence Mandarin, Aromessence Mandarin Night Balm, Hydra Floral Expert Mask, Aroma Lisse  2-in-1 Dark Circle Eraser and finally Aroma Lisse Energising Smoothing Cream.

It was so relaxing, and the scent of Mandarin totally lifted my mood throughout. I've been using the Mandarin Night Balm myself over the last few weeks and it leaves my skin feeling so soft. I've always been a Nivea and Simple skincare kind of girl but Decleor have stolen my heart. There are so many products for different ages, all as specialised as the next.

If Decleor isn't a brand you've paid much attention to I would recommend you get yourself to a counter and have a good chat to one of the lovely girls and see what products would be best for you.
Keep a look out for my next installment on what I've been using and what I'd purchase in full size.

MAC Ruby Woo

Oh Ruby Woo, It's been a long time coming. I have had my eye on this for what feels like forever but there was always another shade I wanted to try. I thought that I had enough red lipsticks. How wrong was I? After seeing a few different photos of some of the gorgeous bloggers I follow wearing Ruby Woo and being told to buy it, I finally did! And it's love. Remind me to stick to the saying "You can never have enough red lipsticks".

Ruby Woo is part of MAC's Retro Matte range and you know I love a matte lip. This is such a beautifully, rich red even in the bullet casing, it's gorgeous. This has a reputation for being one of the dryer matte lipsticks available, but I think it's a small price to pay for how awesome your lips will look wearing it.

I have seen pictures of this on people with various skin tones and hair colours and it suits everyone! Can Ruby Woo do no wrong? I will just say that to pull this off, make sure your lips are super moisturised and free from flakes because it'll show. This wasn't as drying as I was expecting but it doesn't glide on, you need to dab this on or better yet, use a lip brush.
The pigmentation of this is amazing and I think everyone should have Ruby Woo in their collection. If I had the money I'd be gifting them left, right and center.

Superfruits Exfoliating Mask

I love a good face mask and I'm always on the hunt for one to fit my needs ready for my Sunday Pamper Session so when I was having a look in Superdrug for a few essentials that were technically allowed outside my spending ban I popped this super fruits mask into my basket. Superdrug's mask selection is pretty impressive. They have so many different types from clay masks to fruit masks and a few especially for the boys! I picked up the Superfruits Exfoliating Mask and I am so glad I did. It smelt amazing, I wanted to eat my face.
The mask contains Raspberry, Cranberry and Blueberry fruit extracts and is perfect for all skin types. I don't tend to pay too much attention to face masks for specific skin types, if I like the look of it then I buy it and use it. This was a lovely, shimmery lilac colour and you get enough for two masks if not three if you really wanted to stretch it. I used the whole lot in one hit though and layered it on. This started to set pretty quickly thanks to containing natural clay and it didn't feel horribly tight like some masks I've used. After leaving it on for a good 15 minutes, I soaked my flannel and started to slowly scrub away the mask. The Strawberry seeds were really fine and I could feel them working away. I know I've already mentioned the smell of this but it was just so nice, it was like having a smoothie on my face.

I can't wait to get back in Superdrug and pick up some more. Especially for just 99p, or 3 for 2 which is the current offer.

FCUK Summer Collection Event

This is a bit of a different post for me today, I tend to stick to beauty based reviews on my little blog but Thursday evening I attended the French Connection Summer Showcase at West Quay in Southampton and couldn't resist taking a few photos to show you guys. I took along my sister. The event started around 5pm and we were all greeted into store by Southampton's Manager, Lindsey with a complimentary glass of bubbly and some nibbles provided by Millie's Cookies and Krispy Kreme.

MAC By Request - Pink Poodle

It was day two of my spending ban when I received an email containing my MAC newsletter announcing that MAC By Request had gone live on their website. I sat there for an hour um-ing and ah-ing about what to do when my boyfriend said that I could have one. I will just get it out there that he doesn't control what I spend but he knew I was on a spending ban and was trying to be supportive but as soon as he said "go on then" I was a crazy woman unleashed. In the basket Pink Poodle went along with another to top it up to free delivery. I have serious issues, I know.

Pink Poodle was the shade that got the most votes in the By Request polls with a massive 391,741 votes but strangely the only one that hasn't sold out. It's described as a 'Vivid, bright fuchsia pink" and comes in a Glaze finish. On the website it's listed as a Frost finish which I'm not that familiar with but I loved the colour so when it arrived in a Glaze finish I was a bit confused. What's going on MAC?

I'm a big Matte fan, Why I didn't get Hoop or Glam I don't know.. maybe I wanted to be different. Do I regret it a little? Only slightly. Pink Poodle is a gorgeous deep pink with what I think is a slight iridescent purple tone to it. It glides on to the lip and leaves a gorgeous, vibrant colour. It's really buildable too. You need a few strokes to get a really striking lip colour but just one stroke leaves a subtle burst of colour to your lips. I thought this was really similar to Girl About Town which I picked up in March. For someone that doesn't like pink I'm starting to get quite the collection. I had 3-4 hours wear time with Pink Poodle which I think was pretty good, I assumed a Glaze finish would wear away quite quickly. Since buying this I've worn it a few times and find it quite moisturising on my lips, it's definitely one for the Summer months so I need to get my tan on soon.

It's very pretty to look at and reminds me of a Christian Dior lipstick my mum use to wear when I was younger. I think I love it that bit more because of that reason.
Did you pick up Pink Poodle too? I'd love to know your thoughts on it.

Blog Update

Hello lovely readers! This is just a little update to say a massive thank you for all your wonderful support over the last three or so months. I've been completely overwhelmed by the response I've had to my blog. I didn't think anyone would want to read what I'd written let alone want to click that little follow button on the right hand side. To have over 700 of you following in such a short amount of time is just unbelievable.

I have been a little quiet the last few weeks, as April is a really busy month for me at the moment. I've managed to get a few posts up but not as many as I'd like and that's because I am currently in the process of moving house and it's my best friend's wedding next week!!

I will be back to my blogging best in May as things will hopefully get a bit quieter for me again so I will actually get the chance to sit down and get some posts done. I will also (fingers crossed) have internet up and running in the new house. The thought of having no internet pains me. So if you see a crazy, blonde girl running around Southampton looking for wifi.. yea.. that'll be me. Again, thank you for all your amazing support. You guys are amazing.

FOTD - Work Face

Everyone has that fail safe make up look to get them through the day and one of mine is what I usually wear on my face to work. I work in a chemist so having a full face of make up isn't that appropriate and I always go for the natural make up look... the one using lots of make up. In the above photo are my products I use to get my fail safe make up look.

You might be wondering why you can't see a Primer and that's because I don't use one. Not because I'm lucky enough to have amazing skin that doesn't allow my make up to slip but because I haven't found one I get on with yet so any suggestions would be fab.
First up I use a little bit of Illamasqua Concealer under eyes and then my trusty No.7 Beautifully Matte in the shade Calico. Couple of pumps of this blended on to the skin with my buffing brush leaves a nice even finish, I then seal it with a quick dusting of MAC Studio Fix in NW20 along my t-zone. I also use Seventeen Instant Glow in Light Bronze in the hollows of my cheeks and either side of my forehead then finish it off with MAC MSF Stereo Rose on the apples of my cheeks, and down my t-zone.

Next up is the beautiful Naked 3. I'm a big neutrals fan and this palette is full of gorgeous rose hued shades. I sweep Strange across my eye lid and up to my brow then either Buzz or Trick in the crease. Occasionally I blend in Factory or Mugshot into the corners too. I use MAC Studio Fix Lash to open and separate my lashes and then Soap & Glory Thick & Fast to add some extra volume. I also fix up my brows with the GOSH Brow Kit.

What do you use for work?

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish

Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser has got a bit of a name for itself and it totally deserves its many, many awards. Read any review of this cleanser and it will be singing it's praises. I have been using this for a little over a month now and have been truly impressed. I don't get that wowed over skincare. As long as it keeps my face soft and moisturised I'm happy. So after reading quite a bit about this one I couldn't wait to try it.

Cleanse & Polish contains lots of lovely, skin nourishing ingredients such as Rosemary, Chamomile, Cocoa Butter and Eucalyptus. The Cleanser is a thick, white cream that smells gorgeous, the Rosemary and Eucalyptus really stick out for me and you just press down the pump at the top to release a generous amount of cleanser. If you pick up the starter kit in any size you will also get your hands on the muslin cloth to complete your hot cloth cleanser journey. You even get a mini cloth with each sample size.

All you do is massage the cream over your skin, paying close attention to your eyes if wearing mascara or heavy eye make up, making sure you keep your eyes shut. Then soak the muslin cloth in warm water and starting 'polishing' the cleanser off in circular motions. I have really been enjoying using this but I find it a little too much around my eye area so I don't tend to rub away too much. My face feels really fresh after each use and I quite like seeing the cloth get cleaner as I rinse it out. My only problem with Cleanse & Polish is the pump bottle. I like to see how much product I have left. The lady on the counter did explain how there was a suction bag inside to make sure you get every last bit but it feel so light anyway I'd rather be able to see what I've used. Silly little gripe, but by no means does that take away how fab this cleanser is. If you haven't already tried it, get yourself along to a counter for a sample or check out what they're selling on QVC.

April Spending Ban Update

If you follow me on Twitter or have read my previous post you will know that I'm currently on a spending ban. I thought I would do a little update about how I'm getting on and as I am coming up to being half way through, today was the perfect time to do this post. Now.. the spending ban has been a little difficult and if I'm completely honest I failed by day 2 when MAC by Request went online. The boyfriend said because the lipsticks were online exclusives and the chance of them still being there by May 1st was slim I could order one. So I did and then bumped my order up to free delivery by ordering a second. I just can't help myself. If there's free delivery, I'm going to take advantage.

The only other thing I have purchased for little old me was a cream, chiffon kimono from H&M to wear for my best friend's hen party, as it was wedding related I felt this would be okay and it was a bargain at £9.99! You can have a look on their website, www.hm.com for the kimono I picked up but unfortunately the colour I have isn't on the website.

I don't think I've done too badly and if this was a normal 'spending' month but with limits I probably wouldn't find it a problem. Some rules are there to be broken though as they say.
I will be doing a review of the MAC by Request lipstick I picked up in early May so keep a look out for that. I might even do one on the old classic I picked up too!

16 days to go........

April Wishlist

April Wishlist

As some of you may know I've been on a spending ban this month. April is moving month and the month of my best friends wedding so I've had more important things to spend my well earned money on. So in the spirit of things I've compiled my very first wishlist thanks to some helpful tweets and Polyvore.com.

First up we have NARS Sheer Glow.. this has been talked about by fellow beauty bloggers for ages and as there isn't a NARS counter where I am, I'm yet to get my hands on a sample, let alone a bottle. I've also had my eye on Glow by Topshop, every time I go in there I pick it up, um and ah, then place it back down but I've vowed to buy it in May.. it looks so gorgeous in the pot and I know I'll get plenty of use out of it.

Now.. who hasn't heard of Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balms? I have Audacious which I love and I really want to get a few of the paler shades so I can wear them to work. I've also wanted the Ted Baker mint patent make up bag for ages as I have the purse and a bag in this colour. Do I need another make up? No. Am I going to buy it anyway? Yes.

Lastly is the beautiful Daisy by Marc Jacobs. I am addicted to these perfumes.. I have almost every one that's been released so when the two newest takes on Daisy and Daisy Oh So Fresh were released you should of seen the smile sweep across my face. The bottles? Need I say more? I am determined to add these to my ever growing MJ collection.

Is there anything on my wishlist that you have or are also lusting after? Let me know.

Make Up Expiry Dates

As I was searching through a few of my make up baskets and draws looking for something last week, it got me thinking about how often any of us actually pay attention to the expiry dates on our make up products.Do you know how long you're meant to keep that mascara for? Or that eye shadow palette you've had lurking in your stash for years? I for one am guilty of not paying attention to expiry dates, I use stuff till it runs out or keep a lot to one side just in case I might want to use it in the future.

Also as packaging on higher end products gets prettier, the more I don't want to chuck it away, especially when you've spent all that money on say a lipstick or palette you've used a handful of times. Now I'm not saying that you have to start throwing your make up away that you've had for years, because let's face it, I won't be either. I just thought it would be interesting to see the 'guideline' shelf lives of our beloved products. So here it goes...

3 - 6 Months - Foundation, Mascara, Liquid Eyeliner, Wand Concealers
1 Year - Tube & Compact Concealers, Eye shadows, Lipstick & Gloss, Nail Varnish
18 - 24 Months - Pressed Powder, blush (powder & cream), Bronzer, Eye & Lip pencils

Above is what I'd call the bare essentials but everything as an expiry date. Once I started looking for them I was quite surprised at what I found. From make up, to skin care products, nail varnish and shampoo! What I've written is a guide from what I found on my own products. I did have a nose on Google and guide lines for expiry dates do vary. To see that my Naked 3 palette 'expires' in 12 months was mad because I won't be throwing that out come December nor will I be throwing away my Chanel lipstick Arran gifted me for Valentine's Day two years ago.

So girls.. I reckon you should have a good look around your stash of products and see what you find. You may be as surprised as I was.

April Spending Ban

Hello April! Where have you come from? It's scary how quickly this year is flying by, before we know it we'll be discussing Halloween outfits! I am starting April on a spending ban! Boo for me. I've never put myself on a spending ban before as I always thought I managed my money quite well but I have a few big events coming up this April so rushing out to MAC as soon as my pay packet hits my account is something that is being put on hold.

April is a busy old month for me, not only am I moving house again at the end of the month, it's also the month of my best friend's hen party and of course wedding!! So I really cannot afford to spurge on make up or beauty products I don't need. Instead this month I am going to shop my stash! I have collected quite a lot of make up over the last fews years, some of which could probably do with being thrown away! Damn that pretty packaging.

This is going to be a 30 day spending ban as I'm not sure could I deal with much longer, and I'll do an update part of the way through. I would appreciate any tips in the comments below as I find it very difficult not to buy new things once I've been paid.

Wish me luck guys!
