January Favourites

Now my previous post was my big box of empties I had collected over January and I thought why not do a favourites post to go with it? So here it is. I had a few as I have tried so many new products over the last few months but I have cut it right down to five so this isn't a massive post. I have also tried to include a bit of everything so we have perfume, skin care, hair care and a little bit of make up too!

Calvin Klein - CKin2u - I was given this a couple of years ago for Christmas and I've repurchased this twice so far. I'm a big fan of Calvin Klein perfumes because they are fresh and really easy to wear. I tend to use this one during the day for work and have been asked a few times what it is I'm wearing. It's usually on offer in Boots & Superdrug throughout the year too so keep a look out!

L'oreal Heat Protect Straight - I have naturally straight hair but one side always kinks so I have been on a mission for what feels like forever to find a product that stops this. This spray is the best I've used recently. Few spritz on damp hair and then just carrying on with drying. It also smells lovely too and reminds me of an old Moshino perfume I use to have.

Hand Food S&G - Anyone that reads my blog knows I love Soap and Glory and their Hand Food is no exception. It smells amazing, it soaks in really quickly and it doesn't feel greasy. I have one of these at home, in my bag & at work. Best hand cream.

GOSH Brow kit - I picked this up when it was on offer during the sales as I am forever using my friends when we get ready for a night out. I've never been an eyebrow fan. I use a very tiny bit and that is it. This is a lovely little set that comes with three shades and a wax cream that thankfully doesn't leave your eyebrows stuck together or stiff! You can pick this up in most Superdrug stores.

Mint Julips lip scrub - After reading review after review of Lush lip scrubs I picked up my own and also did my own little review here if you want to check it out. I love this one, the results are really great and my lips haven't looked better! Especially when I wear my favourite matte lipstick.

What have been your favourites this month?

January Empties

Heel Genius - I love this foot cream. It has a subtle mint smell and soaks in really well. I've always received this in gift sets for Christmas so have never had to buy my own and I have a fresh tube waiting in the wings from this Christmas! If I ever have to purchase this myself I will happily do so. Can't go wrong with S&G!

Dove Essential Nourishing Lotion - This is the second time I've finished one of these but I wouldn't repurchase again. It's too thick and it takes an age to soak in and I just cannot be bothered standing around waiting for it to do so. It smells quite pleasant and it's usually on offer in Boots which is why I picked it up in the first place.

Garnier 2in1 Make up Remover - I love this stuff. You just shake the bottle to mix it together, squirt some onto a cotton pad and let it melt away the days make up and grime. I've stopped using make up wipes since finding this and it's pretty cheap too at just £2.99 in most drug stores.

French Connection Bath Foam - This was in a gift set I was given for Christmas and I wish this was general sales line in Boots! This bath foam smells amazing, makes the biggest bubbles and left my house smelling amazing for hours! If anyone sees this anywhere, PLEASE let me know!

Nivea Pure & Natural Day Cream - I'm a bit lazy when it comes to face moisturiser. Terrible isn't it? But the last few months I've got my act together and picked this up for £3 in Asda to try out. It smells.. well natural. Like a field I spose. It's rich and left my face feeling very smooth!

Simple Repair Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream - Again this is one I picked up on offer as I thought if I was moisturising in the morning I better get one for night time too. Simple is fab for skincare, I have always used their face wipes and I would repurchase this.

Superdrug 2in1 Hand & Nail Cream - This was a little stocking filler, smells amazing, handy to pop in your handbag and one I will be buying again soon!

Benefit They're Real Mascara - I don't need to say a lot about this other than this is the best mascara I have used. I love, love, love this and will be running to my nearest Benefit counter to repurchase.

Bastiste Floral & Flirty Blush - I love dry shampoo because I hate washing my hair. It's long, thick and takes forever so if I'd rather spend my night on the sofa than spend ages washing and drying my hair this little baby comes out. I always use this before bed so all the powdery bits have disappeared by morning. It gives volume and smells really floral.

VO5 Plump Me Up - I picked this up because it was a new line I had ordered at work and I was not impressed. It doesn't plump, it doesn't refresh my style and it doesn't banish greasy roots. It has an amazing scent but that is the only quality!

Aussie Take The Heat - Who isn't a fan of Aussie? I have used this so many times over the years and it's one I always go back too. Boots 3 for £10 offers always help too!

Aussie Miracle Moist - Another little Aussie treat.. need I explain more! I love Aussie!!

Soap & Glory // The Righteous Butter

I am a massive fan of Soap & Glory, there is rarely a product I dislike and The Righteous Butter is no different. This was in The Yule Monty (reviewed here)  that I received for Christmas and it's available from Boots for £10.50 per 300ml, which is what I have.
I've been using this since the new year, mainly in the evenings as it's quite rich and it's being repurchased as soon as it's finished. I LOVE IT! The packaging is fun, quirky and looks pretty cool in my bathroom and who doesn't like pretty packaging?

The Righteous Butter is soft, creamy and contains Shea Butter and Aloe Vera which we all know are fab for our skin, especially if you suffer with really dry skin! It's also paraben free!
This sinks into skin and always make me feel very moisturised. My skin appreciates it too because I hate moisturising.. it's time consuming and boring but using this has changed my mind and my skin doesn't know what has hit it.

As with all S&G products this smells amazing and it stays on your skin for a good amount of time too. I'm not 100% as what to liken this to, I've been sniffing it on and off all day and stuck it under the boyfriends nose a few times too and the best I've come up with is slightly floral. I advise you buy this and have a sniff yourself because you won't be disappointed.
What Soap & Glory product can you not live without?

My MAC Pro Palette Quad

So after I finished my first little quad which was all neutral shades which you can see here, I decided that I had to complete another. I had some birthday cash so I got myself another empty quad from my local Mac and filled it up that same day.
I already had Smut and Beauty Marked in pots so I roped the boyfriend in to help de-pot them (mainly so I didn't slice a finger off) so I could pop them in my new matte beauty and that is how this turned into my new smokey eye palette!

I then went and purchased Knight Divine and Shadowy Lady to complete it!

Knight Divine -veluxe pearl -  is a silvery, black shade and is so soft! I thought this might need a bit of build up but I was really impressed with this. It also leaves barely any fall out on your cheeks. I've used this a couple of times on its own blended with Naked Lunch for a day time look.

Smut - Velvet finish - is a dark, grey shadow with a slight red shimmer to it. So slight that I can only see it if I hold it up really closely. This is perfect for a dark eye look especially along the lash line in place of liner.

Beauty Marked - velvet finish - is a gorgeous deep purple colour with dark purple glitter.. in the pan. As soon as you sweep it onto your lids it's completely different, almost a black shade. If you apply this wet you get a much deeper colour but more burgundy than what is in the pan. I love it though as you can see I hit the pan a long time ago on this one.

Shadowy Lady - matte finish - is a deep plum colour and so pigmented. It blends well but you need a light hand to apply. It works really well in the crease and along the lash line. Just remember less is more with this one.

What are your favourite Mac eyeshadows?

Illamasqua Lover Powder Blush

made my first Illamasqua order last week by picking up a few bits in their sale and one of those items was this powder blush in the shade, Lover.
I don't usually buy make up online without seeing the product first or at least reading reviews or looking at swatches but this just jumped out at me and for £7.50, I had to have it.
I didn't realise this blusher was called Lover until it arrived and the name made me love it that little bit more.

Lover is a soft, matte finish in a warm peach shade, highly pigmented and blends like a dream. I've only used this dry for an every day look for work and it's safe to say I've fallen head over heels for this blush. I can't wait to have a play around with this for a night out.
You need just a little bit on a brush to work onto your cheeks for a slightly 'flushed' look. But you can work this up easily if you want a bit more colour. It also has a lovely vanilla scent.
Another bonus is its longevity.. after a hectic day at work this is still in the same place I put it in the morning!

I've been playing around with blushes the last few months, switching from cream to powder then back to cream and so on. But this little beauty has put me firmly back on powder. I will definitely be looking into more Illamasqua powders in the future for sure and currently have my eye on Nymph.

Have you used any Illamasqua blushes? What would you recommend?

MAC Lipstick Collection

I have a bit of an addiction to Mac lipsticks.. a growing addiction at that. I've seen a few posts on  Mac lipstick collections and I always seem to find a couple of colours to check out next time I'm shopping. So I thought I would do my own.. and you never know you may even find one that takes your fancy! This is going to be a bit of a long post.. but I hope it's one you enjoy reading.

 Myth - satin finish
This in my eyes was my perfect nude. I swatched it, thought about it, then went back and purchased it. Does it suit me? No, I'm far too pale for this. I've worn this a few times and now  look back on photos thinking "Eek". It's quite a peachy nude and it applies really well.. just sort of glides perfectly. I still look at it longingly wishing I could wear it.

Pink Nouveau - satin finish
I picked this up in Selfridges while in London for the day. I have the mind set that if I'm out of my home city then I'm technically on 'holiday' which means I can buy myself extra gifts. And I'm glad I did because as someone that isn't a big fan of pink.. I love this. The colour this leaves on my lips is amazing and it's also very moisturising. It's a Barbie pink shade and it looks fab with a holiday glow!

Lovelorn - lustre finish
Lovelorn is one of my newer colours. My Sister picked this up for me for Christmas and it's my only Lustre lippy. It applies smoothly and leaves a glossy, natural colour on my lips. This is fab for everyday wear and I've used it a few times for work too (my job is not a place for a bright lip) I will be looking into a few lustre shades next!

Impassioned - amplified finish
This one is a fuchsia pink and is so creamy! It applies like a dream and doesn't need much topping up during a night out which I love! Not a fan of having to re-apply frequently. This has a coral base which makes a change for a fuchsia lip. One of my go to bright lip colours.

Crosswire - cremesheen finish
At first I wasn't keen.. and it reminded me of a 'Grandma' lip colour. But as this was a birthday present from Sister, I kept to it and now I'm a bit of a fan. It's a peachy, coral colour and leaves a slight shimmer on my lips. I find that it goes on darker than I thought it would but then that could be down to me being on the pale side. I've been using this as a day time lip shade.

So Chaud - matte finish
This is my FAVOURITE lip colour and the one I use the most. It's an orange/red matte and lasts a good 4-6 hours. Although the matte range is known for being quite drying, I haven't found this with So Chaud. It's just a rich colour and I can't sing it's praises enough. I'm forever recommending this to people!

Diva - matte finish
This is the lipstick I picked up on my recent 'Back to Mac' trip and because it was my freebie I wanted to get something a bit different. Diva is a  dark red/berry colour and because it's a dark matte shade I find that if it does fade, there is a slight stain left to my lips so it's not as noticeable. Nothing that a decent bit of make up remover won't remove. I think I'm beginning to have a soft spot for their matte range!

Private Party - Divine Night - satin finish
Lastly is my little edition from Mac's 2013 Winter collection Divine Night. I ordered as soon as it hit the website, no swatches, no nothing. And I'm so glad I picked what I did. Private Party is  a dark plum/berry colour with a cool pink tone to it. It applies like a dream and I've worn this a number of times over the recent Autumn/Winter months. I was a bit unsure at first as I'm quite pale but I love it and always get asked what it is when I wear it!

Lush Haul

I'm fairly new to Lush products. I've ventured in many a times but never purchased anything because their products use to really affect my sensitive skin when I was younger.
Now that I'm older I seem to be able to use most things on my skin so with some birthday cash I went in and purchased some of my first products. I've read so many posts on their Lip Scrubs so I picked up my first one and also two bath bombs.

Mint Julips Lip Scrub
Although I've read so many good reviews on the Bubblegum lip scrub I decided to get one of the others to try as I'm not a fan of things that smell too sweet so Mint Julips was perfect for me. The main ingredient is Peppermint Oil which makes this smell like After Eights. It also contains castor sugar, Jojoba Oil, Vanilla Extracts & Tagetes Oil.
I've been using this in the evening as part as my night time skin care routine and also before I wear lipstick. I have noticed a difference while using this as my lips have been much softer and not as chapped, which is what you need in this rubbish weather we've been having.
And the best thing? It's edible!!

Ickle Baby Bot - £1.95
I decided to purchase Ickle Baby Bot because again I'd read a few reviews on it singing its praises. This one contains Lavender and Chamomile which I love in baths as it's so relaxing. I used this one after getting home from work late one night and getting soaked through in the process. What better way to perk myself up than with a baby bot bath?
As soon as I chucked this in the running water it fizzed up really quickly and turned the water a lovely pale blue colour! And the smell?! Amazing. I realise this is 'aimed' at Children and Toddlers but it's a fab price and it lulled me to sleep that night! I will be repurchasing this for sure!

Space Girl - £2.25
The second bath bomb I picked up was Space Girl.. purely because it was glittery and smells like Refreshers. Ah child hood. I used this last night and it turned my bath a lovely purple colour with a hint of pink. This bomb contains so many ingredients and you can read it's full contents on the Lush website. A few of them are Grapefruit Oil, Almond Essential Oil, Bergamot Oil (Which I love) and Popping Candy.. Why it contains the popping candy, I'm not quite sure. As a bath bomb goes it was alright.. the only reason I would purchase it again is because it made my bathroom smell like refreshers for the week it was sat in there. Not really a good enough reason to repurchase.

Please comment and let me know what your favourite Lush products are as I would love some recommendations!

Maybelline Baby Lips

Unless you've been living under a rock for most of 2013, you would of heard of Maybelline's latest venture Baby Lips. They retail at £2.99 in most drugstores which for a simple lip balm is on the pricey side. I'm use to picking up a pot of Vaseline for 99p. I couldn't resist the child like packaging, the bright colours and a buy one get one half price offer in Boots, I along with everyone else picked up some to try. My local boots were down to the last dregs by the time I got there so I only managed to pick up Intense Care which as you can see from the above photo I have repurchased.

Next on my list to try were the tinted balms. I got Pink Punch and Cherry Me again when they went back on offer in Boots. I'm not a massive fan of tinted lip balms and find these are a bit too pink on my lips. Pink Punch is a Barbie pink colour and leaves a really pigmented bright pink tint on my lips which surprised me as I didn't think it would be that noticeable. Save to say I'm not a fan and felt a bit like a child with those tiny lipsticks you could get in princess packs. Cherry Me is a deep pink colour and leaves a raspberry tint on the lips and smells like cherry drops. Out of the two, I use Cherry Me the most because of the smell but that's it's only good quality and I only use on it on my lips before bed.

I have most recently picked up Hydrate and another Intense Care because they're handy to keep on me while I'm at work and they also contain a SPF.They promise to give intense care and hydrate your lips for 8 hours but I find myself reapplying a lot more frequently than that. My lips do feel softer but it feels as if there is more a film over my lips than any soaking in goodness. For their price I'm pretty disappointed in this product. I did repurchase Intense Care because of the Boots offer and like I said they're handy for work but that's about it. I'm a big Vaseline fan and always have been and these have not converted me to change my little metal tin ways.

Stagedive // Topshop Beauty

I'm fairly new to the Topshop nail range and this is my first polish. My sister works in Topshop and picked this up for me for my birthday as I'd mentioned how much I loved the colour. This one is called Stage Dive. It's described as being extra long wear with a lasting glossy finish. Thankfully, it's also pretty fast drying which is perfect for me as I'm a big fidget and always smudge my nails. You need a couple of coats of this to get a good colour but it does leave a nice glossy shine on your nails. I LOVE this colour and it will be gracing my nails again in the Summer months.

In regards to it's long wear, I was quite impressed. It did chip quite a bit by day four as you can see in the final photo but that was after two days of work, baths, showers and a hair wash. I've popped a couple of photos on of how it looked over the other days I wore this.
The other good thing about this varnish is that it comes off so easily! Quick wipe with Boots basics nail varnish remover and it was gone! The brush on this is a little bigger than usual brushes which I personally like and it's quite flat too. Perfect brush combination if you ask me!

Please leave a comment if you've tried any Topshop nail varnish or recommended any colours for my future collection.

Soap & Glory // The Yule Monty

The Yule Monty was THE gift set to pick up in Boots this Festive Season and when it went better than half price to £27 from £60 just before Christmas.. I think everyone went a bit mad... I certainly did!
Soap and Glory, as many of you will be aware is a well known and loved brand. They have been around since 2006 helping all us little lovelies stay squeeky clean! They always manage to pull a pretty awesome gift set range out for Christmas too!

The Yule Monty contains 9 full size products and also comes with 3 little samples of 'Make Yourself Youthful' and is worth every penny!
Inside you get: Sugar Crush body wash, The Righteous Butter body butter, Butter Yourself body lotion, The Scrub of your Life body buffer, Peaches and Clean deep purifying cleanser, Heel Genius foot cream, Hand Food hand cream, Thick and Fast super volume mascara and finally Sexy Mother Pucker XL lip plumping gloss.
How amazing is the contents?! I've been using all the products since Christmas Day.. Sugar Crush is by far my favourite. It smells so fresh and you only need a couple of pumps to get a good lather up!

The Thick & Fast mascara surprised me as I usually like a small bristled brush but this coats my lashes really well and definitely gives that all important volume that's promised on the tube. My only criticism is that by late afternoon, I have dreaded panda eye which is such a shame because I LOVE everything else about this mascara.

The little samples of 'Make Yourself Youthful' was also a nice surprise and I've been using them in the evening after a good cleanse with Peaches and Clean. According to the leaflet after 4 weeks use, your skin will look smoother, fine lines will be visibly smoothed and skin with look and feel moisturised. It's also packed with collagen-boosting plant peptides and super moisturisers. So now I'm going to have to go and buy the full sized serum and give it a go! Thank god for the £5 off voucher on the back!

Did anyone else receive this for Christmas or purchase it yourself? Let me know what your thoughts are on the products inside!

MAC Pro Palette Quad

(From left to right is - Shroom, Naked Lunch, Honey Lust & Antiqued)

I've been umming and ahhing over a MAC Pro Palette for a while. I've used their eyeshadows for years but could never justify purchasing the 15 Pro Palette plus the insert. So the Quad Pro Palette was quickly put in my shopping bag as were four of the eye shadows to fill it.
The palette itself is matte black with a clear, plastic lid with the MAC logo in white across the lid. The insert is magnetic and pops out easily when tapped with a little force. In other words your shadows aren't falling out anytime soon. As you can see I've gone for a neutral palette. I'm obsessed with neutral shades and couldn't imagine using much else on  my eyes.
I'm a massive fan of MAC eyeshadows. They're creamy, highly pigmented and blend perfectly. I think you would be hard pressed to meet anyone that can't get on with a MAC eyeshadow.

Shroom - is a soft beige shade which I've read so many rave reviews on, it had to be the starter in my neutral palette. I find it works really well as a base and also just under the brow arch.

Naked Lunch - I've been wearing this shade almost every day since I first purchased this back in March 2013 and I'm now on my third one. It's lovely to blend with, use as a base or just to wear on its own for a day look.

Honey Lust -  When I first spotted Honey Lust, there was no way I wasn't leaving the shop without it. It sparkled and glittered. And I was sold. It's a lustre shadow which works really well on the crease of the lid and in the corners. The only downside is that it needs quite a bit of product to get the same colour that is in the pan.

Antiqued -  This is the perfect Autumn colour and I instantly fell in love. It is a warm, copper shade and works very well at making my blue eyes pop! This one also needs a bit of build up to get the desired colour but with a bit of blending its beautiful and one that I will be repurchasing.

Please let me know of your own favourite MAC shadows in the comments box below! I'd love to know what to keep a look out for.
